Yesterday was a bit of a surprise for all of us. Alleria's owners, Leah and Chris had entered her in a show in Sydney and our friend Shell Gurney was there to support them on the day as they get their feet. They've only been to a few shows and Leah and Alleria are still learning the intricacies of a show day. Unbeknownst to any of us before the day, the Judge, Mr F Klindrup (Denmark), actually owns and breeds Finnish Lapphunds under the prefix Mols Bjerge.
The judge was quite excited to know the Finnish Lapphund was in Australia and even asked Shell Gurney to bring her two girls Veikko and Ahsoka, (who hadn't been entered) along the next day. On Sunday, he sought them out; to discuss the breed and to express his pleasure in seeing that a breed so dear to him was also flourishing on the other side of the world.
Whilst he didn't give Alleria the Challenge points or Best of Breed (as is a common practice in Europe for young pups) he did one better, by awarding her Best Minor Puppy in Group. A wonderful result for a new show team and one we hope inspires them to keep going.
He provided the following critique:
Very promising 8 month old puppy. Beautiful head and expression, correct bite, would prefer a little bit more leg, shorter in upper arm than I would prefer, good length, correct top line, correct angulation, correct tail set, very nice all over, nice temperament. Very pleasing.
A lovely critique from a very friendly judge. What an experience for Leah and Alleria. Way to go girls!
