Grass Seeds

Where would we be without another Anarchy adventure?
This time a tiny! grass seed got embedded under her skin. Her body threw up a defensive response creating a painful and inflamed external view and an internal fibrous capsule to stop the seed tracking through her body. Also meant we couldn't fish it out the easy way. Anarchy, my body sensitive little soul was out of sorts for days before we resorted to surgery.
Good news, she's been completely unbothered by the staples and returned to her crazy self as soon as the anaesthetic wore off
Ch. Caleebra Summer Sweetheart (AI) - Anarchy - racking up vet bills like there's a loyalty offer for the 10th visit.

We've had a few close calls with grass seeds in the past, including one in the bottom right photos. That little Squiggle on her head in the first shot is the tail of a dry green grass seed. Even in the short coat on her face it was hiding and it was only because I was inspecting her whole face that I dislodged this one near her eyebrow whiskers and saw the tail appear.
She also had a slightly red eye. I gently pulled below the eyelid to separate the rim from the eyeball and rolled the opening along the rim of her eye and a few minutes later a wet seed appeared in the corner of her eye.
Others i've found just piercing the skin or almost completely embedded under the skin.
Dolce and Mischa both had surgery to remove embedded seeds. Dolce's body had also thrown up a defence around his creating a longer lump under the skin. Mischa's wasn't tracking, fortunately. Winter had one get between her toes and we just managed to spare her surgery by using splinter-removing cream because the wound was still open. I keep some at all times now as well as owning more tweezers than is strictly necessary for one household.
Grass seeds are insidious and can be anywhere. You need to inspect them all over.
Seeds can be missed by brushes and combs. Use your fingers to find and tease them out.
