Wow, what a BIG Weekend.
We drove to Victoria on Friday and spent the night with Mel and James. The following day we had an early start and were off to a herding clinic.
Mischa took to it fairly naturally, very calm and softly persuasive she was moving the sheep around the little area in no time. Showing her obedience grass-roots she was very keen to return to me and show me just how clever she was and seek praise and attention. On instruction i would ignore her very solid sits and recalls and instead focus on the sheep. Out of the corner of my eye i could see her mull this over in her head. She would look at me then look at the sheep, then she would move around the sheep and set them to moving again, earning praise. She quickly caught on.
Dolce was perhaps a little intimidated by the situation and whilst aware of the sheep may have been reluctant to interact with them due to concern that i normally want him working with me and ignoring other animals. So we may have some work to do to overcome that previous training. But he still managed to move the sheep a few times around the ring, earning praise in the end and feeling happy before we ended the training exercise.
